Professional Profile

Marco Antonio To obtained his Ph.D. from Universidad Galileo (Guatemala, 2016) through a collaboration with Telecom SudParis, France. He received his M.Sc. in Telecommunications Management from Oklahoma State University (USA, 2004) after winning a Fulbright/LASPAU scholarship and previously earning his BS in Electronics Engineering (EE), with a Graduate Degree in Computer Networks from Francisco Marroquin University (Guatemala, 2001). At Galileo University, Guatemala, he has been a lecturer in the engineering programs. He co-founded the Telecommunications Engineering program in 2000 and also is the founder of the first Graduate Degree in Network Security (2008). His experience spans 20 years in Information and Communication Technologies in academia and in corporate environments. Currently, he directs the Research Laboratory for Information and Communications Technologies (RLICT) at Galileo University.

Also, he has been involved in various international engineering associations, like IEEE, ACM, among others. He currently Chair for the IEEE Guatemala Section, a member of the Steering Committee for IEEE ComSoc’s LATINCOM and IEEE CONCAPAN. He is also a reviewer in various IEEE international conferences and Journals, like IEEE Access, IEEE Latin American Transactions, Frontiers in Communications and Networks. Furthermore, he has been active in other Internet-related areas, being a founding member of Internet Society – Guatemala Chapter, Chair of the Guatemalan National Research and Education Network, and Chair of the first Internet Exchange Point in Guatemala (IXP-GT).
